W.A.R. on Slavery: Human Trafficking Awareness

Centers:

Over 21.3 million known cases of labor or sex trafficking occur globally. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against his/her will. In 2016, cases in the United States rose 35.7 percent versus the previous year, resulting in an estimated $15.5 billion in illegal profits (National Human Trafficking Hotline). Through an innovative approach, MPHI has partnered with Avanoo, the learning management platform administrator; Education Specialist, Patti Hathaway, M.Ed., CSP; and survivor and educator, Ruth Rondon, to provide an online educational tool with continuing education for professionals and others to meet state-mandated requirements. This unique microlearning curriculum covers both sex and labor trafficking, research-based findings, and 20 victim stories. The platform fosters a community of practice for the healthcare industry and law enforcement to raise awareness and identification of victims, cultivate a shared learning and practice, further develop intervention methodologies and improved response. The W.A.R. on Slavery curriculum is designed to ending the abuse cycle for victims. See an introduction to a few of the content areas: 1. All I Knew Was Abuse 2. Becoming Trafficked 3.
