We are proud to share that Dondré D. Young, Special Projects Coordinator at MPHI, was recently appointed to the Protect Michigan Commission by Governor Whitmer. Dondré will serve as the Chair of the Youth Advisory Workgroup, representing Michiganders between 16 and 30.
The Protect Michigan Commission, comprised of a diverse group of leaders from the across the state, works to ensure that every Michigan resident has the most up-to-date information on the COVID-19 vaccine. Established by Executive Order 2020-193, the Commission serves as an advisory group to Governor Whitmer and the Department of Health and Human Services.
The vaccine to prevent COVID-19 is the best hope for ending the pandemic.
- We all need to continue preventative measures such as wearing masks, social distancing, and handwashing to reduce the spread of COVID in our communities even as the vaccine is being administered.
- The COVID-19 vaccine is free or low-cost for Michiganders. There will be no out-of-pocket costs to individuals for the vaccine. However, healthcare providers may bill insurance for administrative expenses.
The Commission works to protect Michigan residents’ health and safety by educating communities about the effectiveness of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine to eradicate the spread of the coronavirus. To achieve this, the bi-partisan Commission is developing an outreach strategy to identify and work with communities around the state where there is hesitancy to the vaccine. The Commission will complete its work and submit a report to Governor Whitmer by December 31, 2021.
