MPHI CEO Dr. Renée Canady served as a panelist at the Mackinac Policy Conference on May 31, 2019, in Detroit. The conference focused on uniting the state as One Michigan under the following pillars: Prepare, Grow and Love. Canady served on the panel discussing the Population Health Outcomes and Information Exchange (PHOENIX), a geocoded map housed at Wayne State University. PHOENIX uses de-identified electronic health records in combination with information on population-level social determinants to paint and overall picture of health in Michigan, area by area, using color-coding to graphically illustrate differences.

Canady said population health efforts underway at Wayne State are not just about acquiring data but understanding the story that needs to be told about the data. That story, she said, is about creating a culture of health nationwide.
