MPHI CEO Renee Canady writes Op-Ed for Lansing State Journal supporting the connection between public health and mass incarceration.

In the Op-Ed, published in the Lansing State Journal in March 2018, Dr. Canady examines the structural causes of poor health outcomes and how they directly correlate to the crisis that is mass incarceration. With Michigan being only one of five states that try 17-year-olds as adults and the fact that in 2015 alone, about 600 kids ages 18 and under were put in prison in Michigan this subject could not be more timely.

Dr. Canady has been recognized as a national leader in the areas of health inequities and disparities, cultural competence, and social justice. She has published and presented broadly on these topics and her passion for this work is evident in her personal, academic, and professional life.
