Center for Nursing Workforce & Policy (CNWP) is an affiliated program for which MPHI provides management support services. The Center supports nursing workforce policy efforts and health policy in general at the state and national levels.

G. Elaine Beane, PhD, is the Director of the Center for Nursing Workforce & Policy at MPHI. Dr. Beane has nearly 40 years of experience in teaching, development and management related to public health, and has been associated with MPHI since 1990. She built and directed the first MPHI unit with data systems capacity; and served for five years as MPHI Director of Programs & Operations, responsible for oversight and quality assurance for all MPHI programs as well as management of MPHI human resources, operations, and technology systems. Now that she has retired, Dr. Beane consults and provides technical assistance on issues and programs related to the nursing workforce policy, health policy, and public health institute development. Dr. Beane has taught at several Michigan universities, consulted with state agencies, and has received funding from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and various state and federal agencies. Her professional interests include systems analysis, game theory, and demographics. Dr. Beane holds a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh and an SB degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
